“I’m an idea man, I thrive on enthusiasm. Don’t take the wind out of my sails.” -Owen Wilson in Wedding Crashers. That about sums me up, I love great ideas, great stories, energy and enthusiasm. It keeps me moving forward, keeps me creating.
I fell into wedding photography a few years ago, after spending a few years pointing my camera at every stream, mountain, and waterfall I could find. I helped a friend a bit at a wedding he was photographing where I was a guest and I was hooked. Photography was always present in my life, even when I was little, just sort of lurking in the background. My grandfather was a photographer, by hobby, and my father dabbled in it before he had to deal with me and my sister. We called his workshop in the basement the darkroom because that’s how he had it set up at first. I got my first 355mm film camera as a graduation present and eventually bought my first 3mp (!) point-n-shoot a few years later. Fast forward 10 years and here I am, knee-deep in cameras and lenses.
I love the enthusiasm a bride brings to her wedding day and wedding planning- its the biggest day of her life, that she’s been planning since she was 12 years old!. I love that energy and fun. I love seeing how happy the couple is together, love knowing that in 20 years they’ll show their kids and someday grandkids the photos I made for them that day- its a huge responsibility and an amazing honor, one I dont take lightly.
A few things you may, or may not, need to know about me:
- I <heart> taco trucks tacos… and really, all food trucks for that matter! My current favorite is the DC lobster truck- ridic expensive for a sandwich, but its sooo good!
- I love the Peanuts theme song, it’s impossible to hear it and not smile and feel better about your day
- Star Wars. A few things here- Han DID shoot first, and there’s only three episodes that really matter: IV – VI. That is all. If you, or your groom, do not believe Han shot first, or think Jar Jar Binks was a good edition to the cast, perhaps you should seek out another photographer…. kidding! If you have no idea what Im talking about, that’s cool, we’ll still get along just fine!
